Ver.1.042.00.02 answers the frame rate drops that followed Monster Hunter Wilds' previous patch
Capcom's August 14, 2026 patch note carries a single bug fix line: measures being taken against frame rate drops reported after Ver.1.042.00.01, which shipped exactly one week earlier. The same notice warns about AMD Radeon drivers 25.10.2 and higher on named cards.

Monster Hunter Wilds is Capcom’s hunting action game: a team tracks an enormous beast, carves materials off it, builds gear from those materials and goes after something larger. It is the most recent entry in the series. The patch note it received on August 14, 2026 is unusually short. The bug fixes and balance adjustments section holds one line, and that line points back at the patch Capcom shipped the previous Friday [1].
The second patch in seven days
The notice is titled Update Summary (Ver.1.042.00.02) and prints its release date as Friday, August 14, 2026. The single entry reads: measures are being taken to address an issue causing frame rate drops in some environments following the release of Ver. 1.042.00.01 [1].
Ver.1.042.00.01 went out on Friday, August 7, 2026, and its own fix list was also one line. The Render Scaling setting under Options and then Graphics was not being applied, and that was corrected [2]. Render Scaling draws the game below the display’s resolution and stretches the result, which is one of the standard ways to buy back frame rate. A patch that touched that setting was followed, the next Friday, by a patch about frame rate.
Read what Capcom wrote and stop there. Measures are being taken is a report of work in progress, not a statement that the problem is gone. The notice also does not say which environments were affected, or by how much.
A recommended driver and a driver to avoid
The part of this notice that asks for action is the driver section. To keep the experience as stable as possible, Capcom says, update to NVIDIA GeForce 581.57 or newer, or AMD Radeon 25.9.1 or newer [1].
A caution sits in the same block. Issues have been identified with AMD Radeon drivers 25.10.2 and higher on certain PCs using cards such as the AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT and 7800 XT [1]. The floor is 25.9.1 and the warning begins at 25.10.2, so on those machines the safe answer is effectively the band between them. If you are on a Radeon card and the game stutters, the driver version is quicker to check than any in-game option.
Capcom attaches one more qualifier: this information is subject to change at any time due to factors such as NVIDIA and AMD support availability [1]. The numbers printed today are not promised for next month, by Capcom’s own wording.
Why a small patch is worth the attention
The reason this one matters sits in the week before it. The same Steam announcement feed carries the Ver.1.042.00.00 update and its maintenance notice, a notice that the game is available at a new price from August 4, and another that the Prologue Demo is available from August 5 [2]. Anyone who arrived through that price or that demo met the 1.042 line as their first build of the game.
Capcom also opens every update notice with a standing line: you must install the latest version of Monster Hunter Wilds in order to play online multiplayer and access downloadable content [1]. That condition is not specific to this patch, but it is the practical reason to update before arranging a hunt with anyone.
As of September 3, 2026 no Update Summary newer than Ver.1.042.00.02 has appeared in the Steam feed. What follows it are posts about Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, the expansion set for 2027 [2]. Whether the August 14 measures actually removed the frame rate drops has not been revisited in a later notice, and no timeline has been given for the AMD 25.10.2 issue. Two things can be checked by hand today: that the client reads Ver.1.042.00.02, and that the graphics driver sits inside the range the notice names.
