Borderlands 4

The Borderlands series has passed 100 million units sold, and 2K is asking fans what comes next

2K did not break the total down by game or platform. Borderlands 4 has finished its first-year roadmap with more content in the works for next year, and the base game is 50% off on Steam until 10 a.m. PT on November 16.

The Borderlands series has sold more than 100 million units. 2K shared the figure in a community message posted on the official Borderlands site at 9 a.m. PT on November 2[1]. Borderlands is a co-op shooter built around picking up and swapping an endless supply of guns. The first game came out in 2009; Gearbox Software develops the series and 2K publishes it[1]. The message gives no breakdown by game or platform, and it does not say which titles the total includes[1]. This article is current as of November 3, 2026.

Borderlands 4 closes out its first-year roadmap

Borderlands 4 launched on Steam on September 11, 2025[2]. In the year since, 2K says, it has released two Story Packs, five Bounty Packs, two new Vault Hunters (the playable characters) and a range of new features and activities. The Year 1 roadmap has just wrapped[1].

More is on the way. The team is working on Borderlands 4 content for next year, and Weekly Activity refreshes and Community Challenges will carry on[1]. What arrives, and when, has not been announced.

Gearbox wants input on where the series goes

2K and Gearbox say they are also looking at the franchise as a whole. They are asking where the series should go next, which characters players want more time with, and which stories deserve a payoff[1]. Feedback goes through the official social accounts and the Gearbox DevCast, a show where the developers respond to community comments[1].

There was no new game title and no date. The message only says that big plans take time and that the team will say more when the time is right[1].

A charity drive on November 6, and a sale that ends November 16

The same message announced that The Hunt, a long-running community fundraiser, starts on November 6. The previous event raised a record $118,995.80 for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital[1]. This time 2K Foundations, 2K's social impact arm, and Gearbox will match every dollar donated, up to that record amount. If the full match is reached, the total could pass $230,000[1].

For anyone thinking of starting Borderlands 4 on PC, a Steam sale is running. On the US store the base game is 50% off, down from $69.99 to $34.99, and the Super Deluxe Edition is down from $129.99 to $51.99. The sale ends at 10 a.m. PT on November 16[2].
