Redoing your hunter's face costs $6.99 today. From 2027 it costs nothing

Capcom is retiring Character Edit Vouchers. Sales end on all platforms on December 3, 2026, and the update that day drops 10 hunter and 10 Palico vouchers into every account. Unlimited free editing arrives with the Ver. 2 update that ships alongside Ascendance in 2027.

Where to play

Capcom is removing the paid voucher that Monster Hunter Wilds has required for changing a hunter’s appearance. Per the Steam notice, from the Ver. 2 update that ships with the 2027 expansion Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, players can re-edit their hunter’s appearance as many times as they like, free of charge and without a Character Edit Voucher [1].

That is not how it works today. On the US Steam store the Character Edit Voucher: Three-Voucher Pack costs $6.99, and one voucher buys one edit [2]. Prices in this article were checked on September 19, 2026.

Sales stop on December 3, and 20 vouchers arrive in their place

The date the notice fixes is Thursday, December 3, 2026. Voucher distribution ends on every platform that day. Vouchers already in an account stay usable until Ascendance arrives in 2027 [1].

A temporary measure comes with the shutdown. Apply the update on that same day and 10 Character Edit Vouchers plus 10 Palico Edit Vouchers land automatically on top of whatever balance is already there, to spend until Ascendance ships [1].

The discontinued items are the three paid three-voucher packs plus the free gift and free trial singles. The three-voucher packs are the combined hunter and Palico pack, the hunter-only pack and the Palico-only pack [1].

The unlimited part waits for Ver. 2, and it reaches the base game

December 3 is not the day the cost disappears. The notice puts the character edit change in the Ver. 2 update released with the 2027 launch of Ascendance, and states that the change applies to the base game of Monster Hunter Wilds as well. Nobody has to buy the expansion to lose the cap [1].

Which leaves almost no reason to buy a voucher now. Twenty arrive automatically on December 3, and after Ver. 2 there is no balance left to count.

Capcom’s stated reason is one line long

The notice says the change to Character Edits is intended to provide a more enjoyable experience to players. The explanation stops there [1].

Here is where the base game stands. In Valve’s most-played list on September 19, Monster Hunter Wilds sat at rank 45, against a rank of 58 the week before. The same entry gives a peak in-game figure of 50,534 [3].

Until December 3 nothing changes in practice. The free gift and free trial singles stop being distributed on the same day, but with 20 vouchers landing that morning anyway, there is no point rushing to claim them [1].

Anyone who paid gets a pair of pendants

Players who bought one of the paid three-voucher packs receive a thank-you set of two pendants. It is granted automatically once the December 3 update is applied, and eligibility covers buyers of the combined hunter and Palico pack, the hunter pack and the Palico pack [1].

The notice does add that these pendants may be made available separately at a later date [1]. Buying a voucher now to qualify is not the move.
