PC games to sink a whole weekend day into, alone

Single-player games that get deeper the longer you sit with them. We kept only games that run in long sessions, whether through a story, an open world or a character you keep building.

A lone player settled in for a long session at a PC

The game you pick for an empty weekend day is not the one you pick for a weeknight. Games whose rounds end in minutes lose their pull when you have hours. This list keeps only PC games that reward sitting alone with them for a long time.

What counts as a long session

Every game here is listed as single-player on its Steam store page and is classified as one that keeps going once you sit down: story-driven games, free exploration and building, and online games about raising a character over time. Games built around short competitive matches are left out. Whether a game runs long was judged from our reviews and official descriptions, and games without that classification do not appear.

What to check before you start

Start with saving. Even among long games, one that saves anywhere and one that saves only at the end of a section shape a day differently, so look for the save-anytime chip in each row. Next is payment. Games bought once sit alongside free games that charge inside, so for anything marked free, read the review for how payment works before you install. Last is language. For story-led games, subtitles decide how much you take in, so check the language list on the store page if you do not read English comfortably.

Games that fit

  1. CONTROL Resonant4.0

A single-player action RPG that charges $59.99 once with no gacha in sight, worth buying now if 120 GB on an SSD is fine by you, as long as you go in knowing the Deluxe edition sells combat items.

    • News: Remedy's quarterly revenue tripled to EUR 39.6 million in the quarter Control Resonant launched

  2. Monster Hunter Wilds4.0

If repeating hunts with friends sounds like a good time, this is the cheapest the entry ticket has ever been; if not, waiting for the 2027 expansion's reception costs nothing.

    • News: A Switch 2 demo for Monster Hunter Wilds arrives October 20, ahead of the December 4 release

  3. Phantom Blade Zero4.0

Combat built around blocking and weapon swaps is reason enough to buy, but the story is fragmented and late-game performance needs checking after patches.

    • News: Phantom Blade Zero tops 4 million sales in 72 hours, and Steam preorder refunds count from launch day

  4. Stellar Blade4.0

If timing-based combat appeals and the character design does not bother you, the PC version is a safe buy today; if either condition fails, the Switch 2 port later this year is worth waiting on.

  5. ZERO PARADES: Director's Cut

  6. Clair Obscur: Expedition 334.5

If story and music are why you play, this is the turn-based RPG to finish this year; if you expected a relaxed turn-based game, it is a parry trainer.

  7. Cyberpunk 20774.5

Five years after launch, Night City is down to 19,800 KRW. If you meet the hardware and age requirements, there is little reason to put it off.

  8. Elden Ring4.5

For someone who treats failure as information, this is the open world of the decade; for someone who wants to follow a marker, it is a ten-hour wall.

  9. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt4.5

The story holds up after eleven years and the price has never been lower, but in the remaster's first week you should check that your graphics card and your saves actually work before you commit.

  10. Valheim4.5

Two or three friends are enough to get weeks out of this survival game, and Iron Gate is patching the remaining 1.0 bugs almost every week.

    • Single-player
    • Open-ended exploring
    • Online co-op
