Free co-op PC games four friends can start without buying a copy

Paid co-op games need everyone to buy in. This list follows Steam's free and co-op labels, with a few things all four players should check before downloading.

Friends getting together to start a free co-op PC game

Suggesting a game is easy. Getting everyone to commit often comes down to the price. For four friends to play a paid game, each person needs to buy a copy. If even one is still weighing up the purchase, the evening gets pushed back. A free game removes that initial decision, making it easier to turn a vague plan into a session tonight.

This article reflects information as of November 2, 2026.

Steam's labels determine what's free and what's co-op

This list only includes games that Steam identifies as offering online co-op or local co-op. Free status also follows the Steam store listing. Those labels are the basis for inclusion, so when the store information changes, the list changes with it.

What all four players should check before downloading

Free games still have ways to charge players. Before downloading, check reviews to see whether a game relies on gacha pulls or season passes, and whether spending money gives paying players an advantage.

Check storage requirements and system specifications against the least powerful PC in the group. Everyone being ready to play won't help if one person's computer cannot run the game.

Co-op support also needs a closer look. Some games offer it throughout, while others restrict it to particular modes. Players may need to finish an opening tutorial separately before joining up. Being on different servers can also prevent friends from entering the same party. These two conditions are not always clear on the store page. Having someone who has already played check them beforehand can help keep the evening on track.

Games that fit

  1. Delta Force4.0

A shooter that lets you move between a large battlefield and a high-risk extraction run without paying to enter, and whose monthly draws never state what any of it is worth.

  2. hololive Dreams4.0

The rhythm game was finished on day one; the stinginess people complain about lives in the banner calendar rather than the rate table.

  3. Marvel Rivals4.0

Nothing behind the paywall changes who you can play, only what they wear, and the gap worth knowing about before you top up is that the same store that flags random items publishes no probability for them.

  4. NTE: Neverness to Everness4.0

A gacha that publishes four decimal places and a hard pity count, and then leaves out the only board most players are rolling on. If 70GB and a server choice can be settled in advance, the install itself costs nothing.

    • Free to play

  5. Where Winds Meet4.0

The gameplay really is free, and the charges collect on appearances. Some of those appearances live behind a Draw Shop whose odds no official page publishes, which is the part worth knowing before the 130GB download starts.

  6. Aniimo3.5

A free creature catcher that lets playtime cover both catching and legendaries, with visible spending pooled in outfits and passes, and a first week whose stability still lags behind its player count.

  7. Apex Legends3.5

If you can squad up with two friends every evening, this is a free battle royale you can enjoy for a long time. Solo ranked players need to accept that they will keep facing premade squads.

  8. eFootball3.5

It offers enough to try a match with real players for free, but you should start knowing that in-game purchases include randomized items.

  9. The First Descendant3.5

A free looter shooter that keeps every charge behind one currency, on the condition that what the currency actually buys stays invisible until 100 GB has finished downloading.

    • Free to play

  10. AION 23.0

Aerial combat and a substantial dungeon lineup give AION 2 plenty to offer, but using its marketplace properly starts with paying for membership.
