From September 1, the US price of the Nintendo Switch 2 is $499.99
Nintendo of America announced the revision on May 7 and it took hold on September 1, moving the console's suggested retail price from $449.99 to $499.99, a rise of $50 or about 11 percent. The original Switch keeps its price, and Latin American pricing has not been announced.
The Nintendo Switch 2 is Nintendo’s current console, successor to the Switch, played either on a television or in the hand. In the United States, its manufacturer’s suggested retail price went from $449.99 to $499.99 on September 1. That is $50, or roughly 11 percent. As of September 3, 2026, the change is two days old [1].
The announcement behind it is four months old. Nintendo of America published it on May 7, 2026 under the heading “Price Revision for Nintendo Switch 2 System”, naming both the new figure and the date it would apply. In May that date sat far ahead; it has now passed [1].
One sentence carries the whole reason
The notice is brief. A sentence for the change, a sentence for the reason, a sentence for what stays as it is, and a closing line to customers.
The reason, in full, is a response to “various changes in market conditions, which are expected to extend over the medium to long term”. Nothing more specific follows it. Components, semiconductors and tariffs go unnamed anywhere on the page [1].
The closing line says Nintendo understands that pricing changes can be challenging for customers, and thanks fans for their continued enthusiasm for its products [1].
What the revision leaves alone
Pricing for the original Nintendo Switch is not changing, the notice states outright. The scope is the Switch 2 system’s suggested retail price and nothing else, so accessories and software appear nowhere in it [1].
One other region is named. Pricing for the Switch 2 in Latin America will be shared at a later date, and no date is attached to that [1].
Reading this from outside the United States
Nintendo of America wrote it, and the American market is what it addresses. Korean, Japanese, Taiwanese and Chinese prices are not covered; each of those comes from the Nintendo operation that handles the region. What ended on August 31 was the chance to buy in the US at $449.99, so anyone importing a unit or planning to pick one up while travelling now works from a different number.
Two questions the notice does not take up: whether buyers from the days just before September 1 can claim a refund of the difference, and when the Latin American figure arrives.
One further check did not come off. Nintendo’s own Switch 2 system page carried no price at all on September 3, 2026 [2], so the $499.99 here is the announced figure rather than one read off a live listing.
