Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 2 arrives August 27

Forty-nine dollars and ninety-nine cents buys three games on August 27, 2026, and one of them has spent its entire life locked to a console two generations old. Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 is Konami’s second compilation of the stealth-action series, announced on February 12, 2026 and, as of August 22, 2026, five days from release on Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Steam.

The game that never left the PlayStation 3

The headline is Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. It was a PlayStation 3 exclusive and has never been re-released on any other system, so for anyone who started gaming after that generation it has been effectively out of reach without the original hardware. Konami’s PlayStation Blog post describes the new version as having an improved internal resolution, a higher maximum frame rate and customizable button settings.

For readers new to the series: Metal Gear Solid is the stealth game where you avoid fights rather than win them, sneaking past guards, hiding in a cardboard box and sitting through long, film-like cutscenes. MGS4 is the ending of the main storyline that began with the first Metal Gear Solid, which is why its absence from modern platforms has been a sore point for years. Vol. 1 covered the earlier games; Vol. 2 closes the arc.

What is in the box and what is not

Alongside MGS4 comes Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker in its HD Collection version, the PSP entry that sits between the older games and Metal Gear Solid V, and Metal Gear: Ghost Babel, a 2000 handheld title originally released on Game Boy Color, included as bonus digital content with screen filters, a pixel-perfect display option, a rewind function and button customization. Peace Walker keeps its online modes: CO-OPS for two to four players and VERSUS OPS for up to six. That is the only online play in the collection, and there is no cross-play between platforms.

The extras follow the Vol. 1 pattern: a Screenplay Book and Master Book for each game, a Database covering the series’ lore up to MGS4, and Digital Soundtrack Vol. 2, which the PlayStation Blog notes is included only with the digital version. Both physical and digital editions are available, and each game can also be bought as a stand-alone digital title.

Pre-ordering adds the Cardboard Camouflage uniform in MGS4 and the LOVE BOX uniform in Peace Walker. If you have save data from Vol. 1 on the same platform, you also get Gold Camouflage in MGS4 and the Uniform: GOLD in Peace Walker. Forbes lists the price at $49.99 on every platform.

Two things are not in the sources we checked: whether the Switch and Switch 2 versions differ in performance, and any region-specific pricing outside the US. Konami’s gamescom booth, incidentally, shows Vol. 2 only as a photo opportunity rather than a playable demo.

The other August 27 release

The same Thursday brings Star Wars Zero Company from EA, Bit Reactor and Lucasfilm Games: a single-player, turn-based tactics game set in the final days of the Clone Wars, built by a studio of XCOM and Civilization veterans. You play Hawks, a former Republic officer, managing a squad drawn from eight species across a galaxy map of more than 150 planets. EA’s press release puts the Standard Edition at $49.99 on PC and $59.99 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, the Deluxe Edition at $59.99 and $69.99, and all pre-orders receive a Crystalline Astromech cosmetic pack.

So the practical list for the week: decide before August 27 whether the pre-order uniforms matter to you, check which platform holds your Vol. 1 save if you want the gold bonuses, and if the budget allows only one purchase that day, note that the Metal Gear set is a remaster bundle at $49.99 while Zero Company is a new game at $49.99 to $69.99 depending on platform and edition.
