A game that has shipped its last major update is not a game that has closed, and PEAK is the first kind
Four scouts at most climb the mountain at the center of an island, and the map is rebuilt once a day. Team PEAK called the August 11 update the last major one, then shipped another patch on September 2. The Steam daily peak on September 3, 2026 hit 45,686, and the only checkout is the first one.

Team PEAK published this game’s last major update on August 11. The official FAQ says so in plain words: with the Citadel and Gloom biomes released, PEAK has now received its final major update, and what follows is bug fixes and maintenance[5]. The same answer adds that the team does not intend the game to become a forever game[5].
A patch arrived anyway on September 2. Version 2.04.a returned CALDERA and THE KILN to the map rotation, sent condors circling above the caldera, and added petrifying rocks and hot rock bridges to the kiln[4]. Hotfix 2.4.b followed the same day and repaired render scaling and the position of Steam avatars in the pause menu[4].
A game that has shipped its last major update is not a game that has closed. Open the Steam most-played chart on September 3, 2026 and PEAK sits inside the top fifty, with a same-day peak of 45,686 concurrent players[7]. Every figure below was read that day from the storefront and from official announcements.
Four climbers, one island, and a map rebuilt every day
The setting is a single island. A party of lost nature scouts has one route off it, which is the mountain at its center, and the climb passes through four distinct biomes[3]. The store’s own one-line summary calls it a co-op climbing game where the slightest mistake can spell your doom[3].
Four people climb together at most, counting yourself. They talk over proximity chat, which carries only the voices of players standing nearby. There are climbing items of several kinds, food of uncertain effect, campfires, marshmallows, character customization, and ghosts for anyone who falls[3].
Terrain is procedurally generated, meaning the game follows a set of rules to build fresh ground rather than replaying a hand-drawn map. That ground is replaced wholesale once a day. The August 27 patch notes describe adding a new batch of Gloom and Citadel maps to the daily rotation[4].
Steam files the game under Action, Adventure and Indie[2]. The tags players attach most often run Multiplayer, Online Co-op, Cooperative, Physics, Adventure, Exploration, First-Person, Comedy[1]. Physics and comedy sitting next to each other is not a coincidence. Most of the laughter in this game comes from watching somebody slip.
$7.99, and no second till
The purchase box has one button on it. The price is $7.99 in the United States and KRW 8,400 in Korea, with a discount of zero percent in both storefronts as of September 3, 2026[2]. Below that button there is nothing else to buy.
In-app purchases do not exist here. The store page carries no in-app purchase notice and no downloadable content block, and the app record returns no DLC field at all[1][2]. Neither a battle pass nor a gacha appears anywhere. The August 11 announcement lists ten new badges to unlock[4], and badges open through play rather than through a checkout. With no paid draw in the game, there is no probability disclosure to go looking for.
Five bundles do hang off the store page, with names such as Big Walk and PEAK, Landfall Collection and Aggro Crab Collection[3]. None of them adds content to PEAK. Each one sells other games from the same studios alongside it, which makes the list irrelevant to anyone who came for the climb.
Three payment points sit outside the game itself. The Steam Points Shop carries thirty profile cosmetics tied to the game, and the points spent there accumulate from money already spent on Steam[1]. Steam Trading Cards appear in the category list[2]. Merchandise runs through a publisher page that hands visitors off to YouTooz, Fangamer and Mighty Merch[9]. None of the three touches the mountain.
The friends list is the matchmaking
Matchmaking, the feature that pairs strangers automatically, is absent. The FAQ answers the question in a single line: PEAK is a Steam-friends only game[5]. The follow-up question, about arriving without friends, is answered too. Play solo or join the Discord server[5].
The same KRW 8,400 therefore buys different amounts for different people. Two or three Steam friends with a free evening make this purchase pay for itself. An empty friends list means climbing alone or introducing yourself to strangers in a Discord server first. That is a structural point rather than a matter of taste, because the game will not fill the seats on your behalf.
The September 2 patch added one thing here. PEAK now has room codes, and the developers describe them as the mechanism that will let players cross platforms once the console ports arrive[4].
Four gigabytes, then the hours where hands learn
The install runs to 4 GB[3]. Against the 60 GB and 130 GB downloads covered elsewhere on this site, that number stands out. The minimum specification asks for Windows 10, an Intel Core i5 at 2.5 GHz or equivalent, 8 GB of RAM, a GTX 1060 or RX 6600 XT, and DirectX 12[3]. Windows is the only platform, with mac and linux both returning false in the app record[2].
How the first few hours pass depends on how many people are in the lobby. Alone, they are hours spent learning to climb. With four, they are hours spent cleaning up after one another, and the store description gives fair warning about the mistakes[1]. Sixty-four achievements are on offer[3], and early on that list works as a set of objectives.
The daily rebuild shows its character in this stretch. Yesterday’s route is gone. Rather than repeating one mountain until it is memorized, players climb an unfamiliar one every day.
Voice deserves a second mention. The game has no scripted dialogue. The only voices are the ones climbers produce through proximity chat[3]. Without a microphone, half the game falls silent. Fifteen interface languages are supported, Korean among them[2], though no language list solves the problem of the stranger shouting in another one.
The FAQ also covers bodies rather than machines. Key rebinding, motion sickness and a bug phobia mode each get their own entry[5], which means anyone who cannot open a game full of insects can check before paying.
Patches keep arriving after the word final
This started as a one-month game jam, meaning a fixed-length event where a team builds a game from nothing. The anniversary announcement of June 16, 2026 puts it plainly, describing the road from the one-month game jam to millions of players and a The Game Awards nomination[4].
The people behind it are a small team drawn from two studios. The FAQ says a small team develops PEAK, made up of developers from two studios, Aggro Crab and Landfall[5]. Steam lists Team PEAK as developer and Aggro Crab plus Evil Landfall? as publishers[1]. The second publisher name is a joke Landfall plays on itself.
Console versions are being prepared and have not arrived. The September 2 patch note says the team has been putting a lot of work behind the scenes into preparing the game for console ports[4], and the FAQ confirms the work is underway. The same answer carries a promise: anyone who picks the game up on console will be able to play with the existing Steam community and with players on other console platforms[5]. No release timing is written down anywhere.
Steam’s own tally, read on September 3, 2026, records 366,621 reviews with 346,379 positive and a summary label of Very Positive[8]. That figure is the storefront counting votes from its own buyers rather than a score borrowed from a review outlet. The widely repeated sales number could not be confirmed against a first-party announcement; the developers’ own wording stops at millions of players[4].
Korean age rating information is missing from the storefront, and the app record returns a required age of 0[1][2]. Support arrives through the Steam forums, the official Discord and support@landfall.se[5]. The official site offers exactly five outbound links, to the Steam page, a press kit, Discord, the FAQ and merchandise, so there is no other desk to find[6]. There is no Steam Workshop integration either, and the FAQ directs mod hunters to an unofficial Discord[5].
Three kinds of buyer get their money back here. The first has two or three Steam friends who can spare an evening. The second wants a game that stops asking for money after the first transaction. The third is choosing something to install on a laptop with very little room left.
Three others will not. Anyone hunting a solo game will find half of this one locked away. Anyone who owns only a console or a Mac cannot buy it today. Anyone who wants a steady drip of new content will not get it, because the team has already written down that the major updates are finished[5].
Today the usual order runs backwards. Open the Steam friends list before the store page and count whether three names line up with your evenings. The unresolved part sits with the consoles. Neither the patch notes nor the FAQ gives a date or a machine for the cross-platform build that has been promised.
