Becoming Sensei in the month Blue Archive opened Act 2 on the global servers
A real-time tactics RPG set in an academy city where students carry rifles. With Main Story Act 2 live on the global servers since August 18, 2026, this covers what you do, where payment happens, and how the first ten hours feel.

The spring-day return that opened Act 2
On August 18, 2026, the Korean and global servers of Blue Archive received Main Story Act 2. The Korean official site currently shows one line of copy: on a spring day when the apricot blossoms bloomed, someone came back, in a form nobody expected. The update added a prologue, the first chapter of “Vol 0: General Student Council” (titled “A Spring Day Full of Apricot Blossoms”), and the first chapter of “Vol Ex: Lore Pursuit”, in which students chase clues from urban legends. The story picks up after the final battle of Act 1, with a newcomer who claims to be president of the General Student Council. Two new three-star students arrived with it, Niko and Kurumi of the SRT Special Academy’s FOX Squad, plus a one-star student, Otogi, handed out through the event. Their pick-up banners run until August 31.
The game first launched in Japan on February 4, 2021, so the second act arrived five and a half years in. That timing is why the game is being discussed again, and it makes this an odd month to start. Act 1 is complete and waiting. Act 2 is one chapter old.
Sensei is a job title
Blue Archive casts you as “Sensei”, a teacher who arrives in Kivotos, a sprawling academy city where students wear rings of light above their heads and carry firearms as casually as backpacks. You serve as adviser to Schale, a federal investigation club, and get pulled into whatever is going wrong at each school. The first assignment is Vol 1, where a handful of students from the nearly bankrupt Abydos High School are drowning in debt.
The genre label is real-time tactics RPG. In practice the game is closer to a visual novel with battles attached. Dialogue scenes are long, each student has side stories, and there is an in-game messenger called Momotalk for one-on-one chats. Nexon Games’ MX Studio develops it; Nexon publishes in Korea and globally, and Yostar publishes in Japan. General producer Kim Yong-ha has been the public face since the Korean launch on November 9, 2021.
Battles run themselves, the thinking happens before them
Combat plays in landscape. Six students (four strikers in front, two specials in support) advance on their own, duck behind cover, and shoot. Your only input is the EX skill: as cost builds, you pick one of the cards at the bottom of the screen and drop it on a target. Everything else is automatic, and speed and auto buttons handle ordinary stages.
The first ten hours follow a pattern. Read the Abydos chapter, clear stages, collect from the café, run the schedule (a daily routine that raises student affection and produces upgrade materials), repeat. Stages cost AP, a stamina resource, and when AP runs out the day is effectively over. Difficulty arrives with Total Assault (boss raids) and the later hard stages, where you have to match student attack types to enemy armor types and build squads on purpose. Total Assault against Kaitenger on Urban Warfare terrain runs August 25 to 31 with a new Lunatic difficulty, which is no place for a new account.
What 8,000 Pyroxene buys
The gacha, the randomized recruitment system, is the only place you are charged. One pull costs 120 Pyroxene and a ten-pull costs 1,200. On the US App Store, the 8,000-Pyroxene bundle is $64.99, which works out to 66 pulls (8,000 divided by 120). The combined chance of any three-star student is 2.5 percent normally and 3 percent during a pick-up period, and the featured student alone sits at 0.7 percent. Every pull adds one recruitment point, and 200 points can be exchanged for the featured student. Two hundred pulls is 24,000 Pyroxene, or three of those $64.99 bundles, $194.97 in total.
The cheaper path is real. A Monthly Pyroxene Pack costs $6.99, and story and mission rewards hand out Pyroxene steadily. From May 26 to June 9, 2026, the 4.5th anniversary gave away 100 free pulls, and giveaways like that return with every big anniversary, so starting right after one changes your opening resources. There is no competitive ladder where character power decides your rank, which means a player who never pulls still reads the whole story. Someone on the $6.99 pack and someone spending $200 a month are reading the same book.
The adults-only label, the Teen edition, and the Steam port
The unflattering parts deserve space. In autumn 2022, Korea’s Game Rating and Administration Committee raised the Korean rating from 15+ to adults-only over sexual content, and on November 29, 2022 Nexon released a separate 15+ “Teen” app with some illustrations and lines changed. The Steam page sets the required age at 19 and warns that the game contains suggestive character designs and mature dialogue. The US App Store rating is 16+. Swimsuit versions of uniformed students arrive every summer, and if that bothers you this is not your game.
As of August 22, 2026 the platforms are iOS, Android, and PC. The Korean and global PC version launched on Steam in July 2025, and full Korean voice acting for the main story arrived with it. Steam Deck and controller support followed on May 26, 2026. The Japanese server’s PC version arrived on January 20, 2026 as an installer from the official site rather than through Steam. Either way, one account covers phone and PC.
Japan first, everyone else four months later
One structural fact is worth knowing before you start: the Japanese server gets story first. Act 2 itself opened in Japan on April 21, 2026 and on the Korean and global servers on August 18. Before that, Chapter 3 of the “Decagrammaton” arc, “Sky of Unity”, went live in Japan between January 18 and 29 and reached the other servers on May 19 and May 27. The gap is close to a fixed four months. Staying away from Japanese communities keeps you spoiler-free; reading them tells you what to save for.
Outside the game, a 12-episode TV anime from Yostar Pictures and Candy Box aired from April 7 to June 23, 2024. As of August 22, 2026, no second season has been officially announced that could be verified. Japan marked its fifth anniversary on February 4, 2026 with a two-day fan event at Makuhari Messe on January 17 and 18, and Korea held a 5 km charity run, Kivotos Run, at Misa Regatta Park in Hanam on June 14.
The game fits people who do not mind long stretches of text and can accept a world where school uniforms and rifles coexist. Anyone looking for tactile action will be bored before the tenth hour. For a new player the practical order is this: the main app rather than the Teen edition if you are an adult in Korea, Steam if you would rather sit at a desk, and Vol 1 Abydos read in full before anything else.
