A Switch 2 demo for Monster Hunter Wilds arrives October 20, ahead of the December 4 release
The free Prologue Demo reaches Nintendo Switch 2 on October 20. It covers character creation through Chapter 1-3 and allows saves to carry into the full game, provided the same user account is used and no full-game save already exists.

Capcom announced on October 15 that the free Monster Hunter Wilds Prologue Demo will launch on Nintendo Switch 2 on Tuesday, October 20, 2026[1]. This article reflects the information available as of October 15, 2026.
Character creation through 'To the Forest', played offline
The Prologue Demo follows the same opening content as the full game. It includes character creation, the story's prologue and the subsequent opening chapters through Chapter 1-3, 'To the Forest'. That entire demo section is free to play[1].
The demo is offline only. Online features and Photo Mode are unavailable. Firing an SOS flare brings NPC Support Hunters to help, rather than opening an online multiplayer session with other players[1].
The demo is already available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Steam. Nintendo Switch 2 is the latest platform to be added. Capcom lists storage requirements of at least 20GB on PS5, 19GB on Xbox Series X|S and 26GB on Steam. The official page does not yet list a storage requirement for the Nintendo Switch 2 demo[1].
Save transfer depends on the account and an empty full-game save slot
Demo save data can be carried into the full game. Players must launch the full game with the same user account used for the demo. If that account already has full-game save data, the demo save cannot be transferred[1].
Finishing the demo is not a requirement. Players can transfer a save before reaching the end of its playable content. Awards earned in the demo and the options configured there carry over as well[1].
December 4 release, with progress kept separate across platforms
The Nintendo Switch 2 edition of the full game is scheduled for Friday, December 4, 2026. The PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Steam editions launched on February 28, 2025. The game is rated for ages 15 and up in South Korea. Its listed player count is one, with online play for one to four players[2].
The full game supports cross-play across all platforms. Players can switch it on or off in the in-game options and add friends who play on other platforms. Online cooperative play on Nintendo Switch 2 requires a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership[2].
Cross-save, also called cross-progression, and cross-buy are not supported. Save data, including progress and information about purchased paid DLC, is managed separately on each platform and cannot be shared between them. Existing PS5 or PC progress therefore cannot be moved to Nintendo Switch 2[2].
Nintendo's US store lists the Standard Edition with support for TV, tabletop and handheld modes. Korean is among its listed supported languages[3]. The major expansion Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance is scheduled for release in 2027[2].
The official pages do not yet list a Korean price for the Switch 2 edition or the demo's exact start time. Anyone planning to carry on into the full game on December 4 needs to start the demo on the same user account, or the save will not follow.
