Minecraft Dungeons II

Minecraft Dungeons II swaps the pickaxe for a sword on September 29

Mojang's dungeon-crawling sequel launches September 29 on PC, Xbox Series X|S, PS5, Switch and Switch 2, and joins Game Pass on day one. It opens a new dimension called the Sift, supports online and split-screen co-op, and pre-order bonuses end September 28.

Where to play

Minecraft Dungeons II arrives on September 29[1]. It follows 2020's Minecraft Dungeons, with Mojang Studios developing and Xbox Game Studios publishing[2]. The Korean Steam page lists September 30, at 34,800 KRW[3]. Everything below was checked against official pages on September 27, 2026.

A dungeon crawler, not a building game

Mojang's own FAQ draws the line in one sentence: Minecraft is a survival game built around creativity, while Minecraft Dungeons II is an action RPG in which you and your friends fight your way across Minecraft-themed areas such as the Overworld[1]. Instead of breaking blocks and building a base, you collect weapons and gear and push forward through enemies.

The new setting is a dimension called the Sift. Mysterious rifts open across the Overworld and lead into it, and Mojang promises new missions, new enemies, new areas and more ways to build a loadout and playstyle[1].

The first game is not required. The FAQ says you can start with the sequel, though players who know the original may get more out of it[1].

Where, and with how many people

Platform coverage is wide: Steam, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, plus Windows[1]. It is on Game Pass from day one[2].

It is built for groups. The Steam feature list includes single-player, online co-op, shared and split-screen co-op, and cross-platform multiplayer, and Korean is supported for interface and subtitles[3]. The ESRB rating is E10+[1].

Before and after launch

Pre-order bonuses end on September 28: a cape, a chicken pet and two hero skins[1]. The Deluxe Edition adds a cape, a pet, four hero skins and the first two DLC packs as they release[2].

There is also a reward that links the two games. Play the original and the sequel on the same Microsoft account and you receive the Hero Cape, which appears in Minecraft Dungeons II and in Minecraft Java and Bedrock editions. Playing through Game Pass counts[1].

A community event is already running. The official page announces the Battle of Tokyo, in which the Illager High Council has begun its attack with Japan as the first target and players around the world are asked to defeat a soul-corrupted creeper together[1].

If you subscribe to Game Pass, the simple move is to download it on the 29th. For everyone else the open question is whether you have someone to play with: judging by its feature list, this is a game that offers more with two or more players than alone[3].
