God of War Laufey

Kratos's wife takes the lead: God of War Laufey pre-orders open at $69.99

Santa Monica Studio's PS5 game God of War Laufey opened pre-orders on September 29 ahead of its February 16, 2027 launch. On the US PlayStation Store the Standard Edition is $69.99 and the Digital Deluxe Edition $79.99.

Where to play

Faye, a red-haired warrior holding a sword, stands on a rocky ledge beside a glowing cube and looks out over a strange land beneath the clouds

Pre-orders for God of War Laufey, the next entry in the series, went live on September 29 at 10:00am local time[1]. The lead this time is not Kratos but his wife, Laufey, better known as Faye. The game launches on February 16, 2027, on PS5 only[2]. The prices and edition contents below were checked on the US PlayStation Store page on September 30, 2026.

A story that begins after her death

According to the official description, the story picks up right after Faye dies, at the moment Kratos and Atreus set out to scatter her ashes at the highest peak in all the realms[2]. Faye wakes in an unfamiliar place and learns it is the Everywhen, the afterlife of the gods, where deities from many mythologies fight over power. The plans she made to protect her family in her absence are now at risk, so she sets out to find a way home[2].

She has two companions. Lu is a being made of enchanted ribbons who guards Faye's sword, and Phranque is a strong-willed cosmic cube deeply tied to the Everywhen[2]. Deborah Ann Woll returns as Faye, with Jack Quaid as Phranque and Perlina Lau as Lu[2]. The official FAQ says you do not need to have played any other God of War game to follow it[2].

A sword, and now a bow

The official page describes the combat as the brutal close-quarters fighting of the modern games blended with the mobility of the classic Greek entries[2]. Faye picks up a powerful new sword on arriving in the Everywhen and uses Jötnar magic to strike at an enemy's very essence[2].

The pre-order announcement introduced a second weapon, the Serpent Bow[1]. Fully pressing the aim trigger puts Faye into a precision mode: hitting specific points on an enemy's body can hamper its movement or attacks, and she can charge and stack up to five arrows for a single volley. A half press drops her into a mobile hip-fire stance that sprays a cluster of arrows at close range[1]. Swappable Scales change both the bow's look and the playstyle it favors[1].

Ten dollars between the two editions

On the US PlayStation Store the Standard Edition is $69.99 and the Digital Deluxe Edition is $79.99. Upgrading from Standard to Deluxe later costs $10.00[2].

Every edition bought before launch comes with the Last Wish Armor Set, the Phranque Golden Leaves Appearance and an in-game resource pack[2]. The Digital Deluxe Edition adds a digital mini artbook and the soundtrack, plus the Dark Alchemy Armor Set, Blade, Bow Scales and Catalyst and another in-game resource pack[2]. All in-game items unlock through story progress. Buyers of the physical Standard Edition get the pre-order bonus as a download code, valid until February 16, 2037[1][2].

What the extra $10 buys

On PS5 Pro the game supports PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) for a sharper image on 4K displays[2]. If you are torn between the two editions, the list above is short: the only things you can use outside the game are the artbook and the soundtrack, and everything else is gear and resources that open up as the story moves forward.
