Ghost of Yōtei: Jin Sakai joins Most Wanted as its fourth playable character

The September 3 State of Play made Ghost of Tsushima's protagonist playable in Ghost of Yōtei's new roguelike mode. Most Wanted and the Echoes of Sekigahara expansion both arrive October 1 inside the paid Complete Edition, and the only free piece is a photo mode, Beauty of Yōtei.

Where to play

The lead character of one game is now a character you control in its follow-up. Andrew Goldfarb, senior communications manager at Sucker Punch Productions, wrote on PlayStation.Blog on September 3, 2026 that Jin Sakai, the protagonist of Ghost of Tsushima, will be playable in Ghost of Yōtei: Most Wanted [1]. The reveal came from the State of Play broadcast that ran the same day.

Ghost of Yōtei is Sucker Punch’s PS5 action game, set in 1600s rural Japan and following Atsu, a haunted lone mercenary hunting the people who killed her family across Ezo in the north. Sony’s own product page calls it a standalone experience set 300 years after Ghost of Tsushima [4], which is why the two protagonists never share the main campaign. They share this side mode instead. As of September 3, 2026, the following is what has been confirmed.

All four Tsushima stances, carried across

Jin is the fourth playable character in Most Wanted. The post says Sucker Punch is glad to have the hero of Ghost of Tsushima back for the new mode, complete with all four of his signature stances [1].

Stances were the combat system of the 2020 game: the player switches guard depending on the weapon the enemy is carrying, and each stance opens a different opening. That carries over unchanged. Jin’s loadout is a katana plus the Sticky Bomb and the hankyu, a short bow. His ultimate, Dance of Wrath, targets several enemies at once and disarms them. His kill streak, Ghost Stance, terrifies nearby enemies and kills a set number of them in one hit each [1].

Die, restart, and begin the next run slightly stronger

Most Wanted is a roguelike combat survival mode. A roguelike run ends by taking most of what you gathered with it, but the unlocks stay, so each attempt starts from a slightly better position. In the post’s own terms, you choose from four playable characters and accept bounties with escalating difficulty, earning perks and upgrades along the way [1]. Sony’s Korean-language announcement adds that defeating enemies earns bonuses and unlocks the additional characters [2].

The other three carry their own kit. Atsu, unlocked from the start, fights with dual katana and Ghost Tools including the Metsubushi blinding bomb. Oyuki uses a kusarigama, kunai and a tanegashima rifle. Nagato carries a yari spear, a tanzutsu pistol, and two bows, the yumi and the hankyu [1].

Echoes of Sekigahara cuts between the mainland and Ezo

The second release on the same date is Echoes of Sekigahara, a narrative expansion. Sony’s Korean post describes a story that alternates between Atsu in the present and flashbacks to her years on the Japanese mainland, with Nagato, someone she knew back then, arriving in Ezo [2]. Sekigahara refers to the battle fought in Japan in 1600.

What September 3 added is the reason Nagato is being hunted. He is wanted by the Vipers, outlaws loyal to the Snake, who were left leaderless after the Snake’s death and have lost none of their cruelty. The Vipers hold Ashoro Foothills, the area unveiled here for the first time, described in the post as a previously unseen part of Ezo that once teemed with wildlife and has since been left devastated [1]. The Japanese edition of the announcement renders the place name as 足寄台 [5].

The expansion also brings new enemy types, several new heavy weapons, new mythic tales and abilities, and new armor sets and cosmetics [1].

What October 1 gives away, and what it charges for

The patch lands on Thursday, October 1. It arrives as an update rather than as a separate store item.

One piece costs nothing. Anyone who owns Ghost of Yōtei unlocks the free Beauty of Yōtei mode without buying the upgrade, which lets you browse the environments of Ezo and explore them in Photo Mode [1][2].

Most Wanted and Echoes of Sekigahara are paid. Both sit inside Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition, which is the base game plus Ghost of Yōtei Legends, the online co-op mode for up to four players that ends in a Raid [3]. The Complete Edition is $69.99. Owners of the base game instead buy the Complete Edition Upgrade at $14.99, which grants access to both pieces on October 1 [1][3]. Regional pricing is set separately: Sony Korea lists 79,800 won for the digital Complete Edition, 89,800 won for the disc, and 16,800 won for the upgrade, with the patch dated October 2 in Korean time [2].

Most of the date and the price were already public

Reading the whole package as a September 3 reveal gets the timeline wrong. The October 1 date, the $69.99 and $14.99 figures, and the names Most Wanted and Echoes of Sekigahara were all in the Complete Edition announcement of August 12. That post named only three playable characters, Atsu, Oyuki and Nagato, and the word Ashoro does not appear in it at all [3].

Three things are genuinely new today: Jin Sakai as the fourth playable character, Ashoro Foothills as a location, and the Vipers as the reason the expansion’s plot moves.

For anyone who already owns the base game, the single decision on the table is whether to pre-order the upgrade now. It is open, and no announcement says the $14.99 is limited to the pre-order window. The unanswered part is how Jin gets unlocked. The Korean post says only that beating enemies opens additional characters [2], and the September 3 post confirms nothing beyond Atsu being available from the start [1]. That, along with an official localization of Ashoro Foothills, waits on the October 1 patch notes.
