Pre-orders opened today, seven months out, and FINAL FANTASY VII REVELATION already lists a paid story pass
PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo, Steam and Epic opened pre-orders on 3 September 2026 for a game that ships on 8 April 2027. The closing chapter of the Final Fantasy VII Remake Series has no gacha and no season pass, and its paid Story Expansion Pass is already listed. Four editions, $69.99 to $109.99.

Buying the finale today hands over the first two games
FINAL FANTASY VII REVELATION has not shipped. The Steam listing gives a release date of 8 April 2027 and marks the title as not yet out[1], and all five storefronts are taking pre-orders and nothing else. This review therefore contains no play impressions. What it covers is the set of terms published on those storefronts, and the score measures exactly that much.
The game’s position in the series is stated on the storefronts themselves. The Korean PlayStation Store calls it the closing chapter of the Final Fantasy VII Remake Series trilogy[2], and the PlayStation Blog announcement uses the phrase “the final entry” for the same idea[5]. The two earlier entries are FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE INTERGRADE and FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH. Buy the Trilogy edition and both of them unlock the moment the pre-purchase clears[2], which is the one part of this purchase that produces something playable today.
The series has only just finished gathering on a single generation of hardware. Nintendo’s European search API dates the Switch 2 release of REMAKE INTERGRADE to 22 January 2026 and REBIRTH to 3 June 2026[3]. Those two arrived as ports after the fact. The finale is the first entry built for all five platforms from the start.
An airship, two new playable characters, and a wardrobe that unlocks abilities
The Korean PlayStation Store blurb is the most specific description any storefront currently offers. The player flies the airship Highwind, picks a drop point and parachutes down to it[2]. Vincent Valentine and Cid Highwind join the playable roster, Vincent fighting with guns and Cid working a spear across ground and air[2]. A new system called WEAR unlocks abilities and skills when a character equips a dedicated outfit[2], and the same page promises a fight against Weapon, described as a colossal guardian of the planet.
Nobody else joins in. PlayStation lists one player, Steam files the game as single-player, and Nintendo’s US listing reads “Single system (1)”[1][2][4]. No storefront carries a multiplayer entry of any kind.
The genre label depends on which store is asked. Steam files it under Action, Adventure and RPG[1], and the Korean PlayStation Store classifies it as a role-playing game[2]. Action RPG sits closest to both.
Five storefronts opened within the same hour
The reason this name is circulating is scheduling. The 3 September State of Play closed with the release date and a gameplay showing, and the PlayStation Blog posted its announcement the same day[5]. The title itself was not new: the 31 August preview post had already named it. What arrived on 3 September was a date and footage.
The storefronts opened on the broadcast’s clock. The Microsoft catalog records availability starting at 14:00 UTC on 3 September 2026[6], which is the same window as the show.
Platform coverage is settled in one line on the Japanese official site: “PlayStation 5 / Nintendo Switch 2 / XBOX Series X|S / XBOX on PC / Steam / Epic Games Store”[7]. This is neither a PlayStation exclusive nor a PC release with console ports trailing behind.
Sales position cannot be discussed yet. Steam’s most-wishlisted top 25 was opened directly and does not include this game[8]. No public figure exists to measure pre-order demand against.
$69.99 to $109.99, with one more line after launch
One purchase closes the transaction, at one of four prices. Standard is $69.99, Trilogy $84.99, Premium $99.99 and Premium Plus $109.99[6][15]. The Korean ladder reads 79,800, 97,800, 114,800 and 124,800 won[2], and the Japanese one 9,900, 11,330, 14,278 and 16,478 yen[9][10]. Three independent storefronts agree on the US figures, since the package list in the Steam API matches both the PlayStation Store and the Microsoft catalog[6][9].
Nothing here is free-to-play with a shop attached. Steam’s category list carries no in-app purchase entry[1] and the Microsoft catalog returns HasThirdPartyIAPs as false[6]. With no gacha, battle pass or season pass anywhere on the listings, there is no odds disclosure to check.
There is one more purchase waiting after release. The Story Expansion Pass is already registered on Steam under its own app ID, 4910840[11]. It contains an accessory, a story episode centred on Sephiroth, and a second centred on Vincent and the Turks. The Japanese official site schedules delivery from winter 2027 through spring 2028 and states that both episodes will also sell individually once released[12]. A publisher can call a game the finale and still list two paid chapters below it on the same page.
What the upper tiers add is time and decoration. Premium and Premium Plus grant 24 hours of early access ahead of the standard launch, and Premium Plus adds a digital art book, a mini soundtrack, and in-game materia, armour and accessories[1][12]. The pre-order bonus is the same regardless of edition: a summon materia pairing a mech chocobo with moogles[12].
Four dubbed languages, and a key card that downloads 130GB
Voice work covers four languages. Steam marks Japanese, English, French and German with full audio support, and the remaining seven languages are subtitle-only[1]. Korean, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese all sit in the second group.
Subtitle coverage then splits by platform, which is where importing gets expensive. Steam and Epic carry eleven subtitle languages in a single build[1][13]. PS5 instead cuts the same game into regional SKUs: the Korean store sells a Korean-language edition[2], Japan sells a JP/EN version, and Hong Kong stocks a Chinese-and-Korean build beside a Japanese-and-English one, eight products in total at HK$528, HK$628, HK$748 and HK$828[14].
Nintendo’s listing is the shortest of the set. The US store names Japanese, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Latin American Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese and American English, with no Korean or Chinese[4]. The Japanese official site agrees, keeping both languages off the Switch 2 and PS5 subtitle lists and adding them only for Xbox, Steam and Epic[7]. Nothing published so far confirms Korean or Chinese subtitles on Switch 2 at all.
The physical Switch 2 release carries a further condition. It ships as a Game-Key Card, so the first launch downloads the game itself, which the Japanese official site says requires an internet connection and at least 130GB of free space[12]. The card is a licence, not the game.
Ratings pending, one date off by a day
The Korean PlayStation Store appearing to say 7 April is a timezone artefact. Its raw releaseDate value is 2027-04-07T15:00:00Z, which lands at midnight on 8 April in Korea[2]. The US value is 2027-04-08T04:00:00Z and the Hong Kong one 2027-04-07T16:00:00Z, both resolving to 8 April locally[14][15].
No rating board has finished. The English official page shows the ESRB rating as pending[16], CERO has not ruled in Japan[7], and the Korean value disagrees across stores, with Steam gating its Korean page at 19 while the Microsoft catalog prints 15[1][6]. None of those is a settled figure to plan around.
Platform features are documented in more detail than the ratings are. The Microsoft catalog flags Xbox Play Anywhere along with 4K, HDR, VRR and 60fps support[6]. The Korean PlayStation Store lists PS5 Pro enhancements, remote play, and DualSense haptic feedback and adaptive triggers[2].
Two questions closed unanswered. The Taiwanese PlayStation Store page carries game information but no products and no prices, so whether the game sells there is unconfirmed[17]. The Epic product page returns 403 outside a browser, which left Epic’s own content API as the only readable source for that edition[13].
What today’s payment actually starts
Anyone who has finished the first two entries has little reason to click now. Seven months remain, and a pre-order moves the start line forward by 24 hours, which arrive in April 2027.
Anyone who has not played them is looking at a different sum. The $84.99 Trilogy edition covers all three games, and the first two unlock as soon as the pre-purchase clears[2]. What a payment starts today is REMAKE INTERGRADE, not the finale. Two full games in seven months is a realistic target for most people.
Waiting is the better call for a specific group: anyone who needs Korean or Chinese subtitles on Switch 2, anyone who cannot clear 130GB, and anyone who dislikes paying twice for the ending of a story. The first of those has no answer until a storefront changes its listing.
Three things stay open. Whether Switch 2 gets Korean and Chinese subtitles, what rating each board finally issues, and whether Taiwan gets a storefront at all. The pre-order window runs to 23:59 on 7 April 2027 on consoles and to 22:59 on 8 April on Steam and Epic[12], which leaves seven months for those answers to arrive.
