AION 2: the global launch is October 5, and two other dates come first
NC confirmed at gamescom Opening Night Live that AION 2 launches globally on October 5, on PC through Steam and PURPLE. The base game is free to play. A Launch Scale Test runs September 17 to 18, and a Founder's Pack starting at $24.99 opens the world five days early on September 30.

NCSOFT’s MMORPG AION 2 leaves Korea on October 5. In a press release dated August 26, 2026, NC said it had shown a new trailer at Opening Night Live, the eve-of-show broadcast for gamescom 2026 in Cologne, and fixed the global launch date. The game arrives the same day across North America, South America, Europe and Asia, on PC platforms including Steam and PURPLE [1]. As of September 3, 2026 that date stands, and NC has published no AION 2 release since August 26.
An MMORPG whose pitch is that the sky is a battlefield
AION 2 is an MMORPG, a game in which large numbers of players share one persistent world and build up a character in it. It descends from the original AION, and keeps the premise: you play a Daeva, a winged being, and you fight in the air. The Steam description NC wrote opens by saying the sky is not the limit but the battlefield. The page adds that the game runs on Unreal Engine 5, that its world of Atreia is thirty-six times the size of the original, and that gaining altitude is meant to be a combat advantage rather than a way to travel [4].
The game already exists as a live service in Korea, where a July 1 update called Chapter 1 added a new class and raised the level cap to 50 [7]. October 5 is therefore not the day a new game switches on. It is the day a running game opens to PC players outside Korea.
Read September 17, September 30 and October 5 in that order
Three dates sit across two NC documents published twenty days apart, and side by side they can read like a delay. They are a sequence.
First comes the Launch Scale Test, running two days from September 17 to 18. NC wrote that it will stand up an environment identical to live service in order to check server and infrastructure stability, and that it also gives players a chance to try the game before the full launch [1].
Second is September 30. NC’s August 6 release said AION 2 would begin global service with early access on that date, and that a Founder’s Pack including early access entitlement was already on sale [2]. That document named no launch date at all.
Third is October 5. The August 26 release does the reverse: it never mentions early access and gives only the launch date [1]. The Steam Founder’s Pack page reconciles the two in a single line. The first item in every tier is five-day advanced access, described as entering the world five days before the official launch [5]. Five days before October 5 is September 30. Nothing moved; the test, the head start and the launch simply fall in that order.
Five days early costs $24.99 and up
The base game is free to play. It is listed that way on Steam, so downloading and starting it involves no payment [4]. The charge sits in the Founder’s Pack, a separate store entry with three tiers. On the US Steam store on September 3, 2026 they were priced at $24.99 for Standard, $49.99 for Deluxe and $99.99 for Ultimate [5].
All three include the five-day head start. Standard adds a Daeva’s Campaign Supply Chest, a Unique-grade title called Vanguard of Atreia, and a 30-day Special Quai Membership. Deluxe layers armour and weapon skins on top of the Standard contents; Ultimate adds a styling chest, a Black Dragon pet and a wing skin. The store copy calls the offer limited-time but gives no closing date [5]. These are US store figures, so anyone planning to buy should check the price in their own regional store.
Two Chinese language entries are missing from one of the two lists
NC’s April 22 release listed ten supported languages: English, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, Russian, and Chinese in both simplified and traditional forms [3]. On September 3, 2026 the language table on the Steam page for the base game shows eight, and neither Chinese entry is among them: English, French, German, Spanish (Spain), Japanese, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian and Korean [4]. The Founder’s Pack page, checked the same day, still lists all ten [5]. With the two pages disagreeing, a player who intends to play in Chinese should open the base game’s language table before paying for anything.
China was always a separate track in any case. NC signed a strategic publishing agreement with Shengqu Games in Shanghai on July 30 for AION 2 in China. Shengqu opened a Chinese site the same day and revealed the local service name, 永恒之塔2. Schedule details were left for later announcements [6]. October 5 is not that release.
The regional server wording also changed between documents. In April NC said it would run per-region servers for North America, South America, Europe and Japan [3]. In August the same list reads North America, South America, Europe and Asia [1]. Neither document explains the difference.
Two other games shared the stage
AION 2 was one of three NC titles at Opening Night Live. CINDER CITY showed a cinematic that tells how the world of the twenty-first century reaches its end, seen through a character in the story; NC had run a Pre-Alpha PlayTest for US players over three days from August 14 to 16, local time. The third was Like or Die, a team-based survival first-person shooter in development, in which players take the role of streamers and cooperate to be the last team standing. The reveal footage showed combat built around Blocks and the destruction of an opposing side’s Nexus, and the game can be wishlisted on Steam [1]. It is the title NC had trailed in August under the working name Project Bonfire, promising to announce the final name at the show [2].
Two weeks to the first deadline
The thing worth checking now is hardware. Steam lists minimum requirements of 64-bit Windows 10 or 11, an AMD Ryzen 5 2600 or Intel Core i5-10500, 8GB of RAM, a GeForce GTX 1050 Ti with 4GB, DirectX 12 and 100GB of storage. Recommended is a Ryzen 7 3700X or Core i7-11700, 16GB of RAM and a GeForce RTX 2070 with 8GB, with the same 100GB and an SSD advised [4]. That 100GB is worth clearing in advance.
The same page carries a disclosure from NC: some in-game assets were made with the help of AI tools, specifically Arcana card designs and some icons [4].
September 17 is two weeks away. A Steam wishlist entry will bring a launch notification, but it will not tell anyone how to get into the Launch Scale Test. No notice explaining how to sign up, or when the servers open for those two days, had been published as of September 3, 2026.
