Pre-orders open September 10 for two limited Grand Theft Auto VI DualSense controllers, and the colors sell through different channels

A controller announcement rarely arrives with a time of day attached to it. Sony Interactive Entertainment published one on September 3, 2026, unveiling two limited-edition Grand Theft Auto VI DualSense wireless controllers and, in the same post, fixing pre-orders to September 10 and the release to November 19 [1]. The post is credited to Isabelle Tomatis, vice president of global marketing at SIE, and to R*Q of Rockstar Games.

Grand Theft Auto VI is Rockstar’s open-world crime game, set in Vice City, its fictional stand-in for Miami. As of September 3, 2026, Rockstar’s own page still carries November 19, 2026 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with a note that the game plays best on PS5 [2]. The DualSense is the controller that ships with the PS5, and these two are the same hardware in a different shell: the DualSense Wireless Controller Grand Theft Auto VI White Limited Edition and the Black Limited Edition [1].

Daybreak in white, nightlife in black

The finish is what the two share. The post describes a shimmering, color-shifting surface that brings together the hues of a Vice City sunset and the glow of neon lights [1], which is to say the color moves as you turn the controller. Palm tree details are molded directly into the shell, so they can be felt under the fingers, and official Grand Theft Auto VI branding sits alongside them [1].

The hour of day is what separates them. The white edition takes Vice City at daybreak, its white sands and pastel skies. The black edition takes the energy of the city’s nightlife [1]. One city, split into a morning version and an evening one.

The countries given a time, and the ones left out

Pre-orders open on September 10. In the United States that is 7 a.m. Pacific and 10 a.m. Eastern. In the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Austria, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg it is 10 a.m. local time. At that hour both colors go up on direct.playstation.com in limited quantities, according to the post [1].

The list stops there. No pre-order time is given for Korea, Japan, China or Taiwan, though a yen price is quoted, which at least implies a Japanese release. The recommended prices are $84.99, ¥12,480 including tax, €84.99 and £74.99 [1]. Prices in won, yuan and New Taiwan dollars have not been announced.

Why the black one is the harder buy

Limited quantities apply to both, but the routes to them differ. The white edition sells globally in limited quantities at direct.playstation.com and at participating retailers. The black edition sells in limited quantities exclusively through direct.playstation.com in the regions where that store operates, and through select retailers elsewhere [1].

That leaves the black edition with the narrower path. If you live somewhere direct.playstation.com does not serve, the September 10 window is not your window, and you will be watching a local retailer instead. Which retailers those are is not named in the post.

Ordering directly from PlayStation adds free launch day delivery on eligible pre-orders [1]. What makes a pre-order eligible is not spelled out.

Two decisions before September 10, and three blanks

The controllers ship November 19, the same date as the game itself [1]. Rockstar’s page still holds that date as of September 3, 2026, with the PS5 marked as the version that plays best [2]. The scheduling is deliberate: the box arrives on the day there is something to play on it.

So there are two things to settle inside the week. Which color, and which counter: direct.playstation.com on the day, or a retailer’s own allocation later. If you are in one of the countries with a stated hour, September 10 at 10 a.m. is an alarm. If you are not, the wait is for a local announcement that has not been made.

Three blanks remain. How many units “limited quantities” means, whether more stock follows once the first allocation clears, and when the regions left off the list get a time and a price. None of the three appears in the post [1].
