What gamescom Opening Night Live 2026 has already confirmed

Geoff Keighley's showcase streams on August 25 at 8 p.m. CEST, with Final Fantasy VII Revelation, a Witcher 3 expansion, a Silent Hill trailer and a Game of Thrones RTS on the slate.

If you are in Seoul, Tokyo or Taipei, gamescom Opening Night Live happens in the small hours. The show starts on Tuesday, August 25, 2026 at 8 p.m. in Cologne (CEST), which is 2 p.m. in New York, 11 a.m. in Los Angeles, 3 a.m. on Wednesday in Korea and Japan, and 2 a.m. in China and Taiwan. A 30-minute pre-show runs ahead of it and the main broadcast is expected to last about two hours. Those are the confirmed details as of August 22, 2026, and the stream is free on The Game Awards’ YouTube and Twitch channels.

Why a two-hour trailer reel matters

gamescom is Europe’s largest games fair, held at the Koelnmesse exhibition centre in Cologne, Germany, and the 2026 edition runs from August 26 to 30. Opening Night Live is its televised kickoff, hosted and produced by Geoff Keighley, the presenter behind The Game Awards, with Eefje “Sjokz” Depoortere co-hosting. Publishers use it to premiere trailers, so for someone who does not follow the industry daily it is the one evening when a large share of the next twelve months of releases gets announced in a single sitting. This year the organisers, Koelnmesse and the German games industry association game, said in July that the exhibition space had been fully booked for the first time in the event’s history. Inven Global’s preview lists Xbox, Nintendo, EA, Ubisoft, Capcom, SEGA, Bandai Namco, Konami, CD Projekt Red, Tencent Games, NetEase and HoYoverse among the exhibitors, with KRAFTON and NCSOFT from Korea.

What is already on the slate

Publishers have pre-announced several segments, which is unusual enough to be worth listing.

Square Enix will have director Naoki Hamaguchi present a new look at Final Fantasy VII Revelation, the closing chapter of its Final Fantasy VII remake project, confirmed for Switch 2 with a simultaneous release on all platforms in spring 2027.

CD Projekt Red said in a July 21 press release that new information about Songs of the Past, the first new expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in a decade, will be revealed during the show. The expansion is due in 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, and the studio will run guided presentations at its booth afterwards.

Konami confirmed a brand-new Silent Hill: Townfall trailer for Opening Night Live, followed by an interactive Townfall experience at its booth in Hall 7.1, where Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse will be playable.

PlaySide Studios will premiere the gameplay reveal trailer for Game of Thrones: War for Westeros, a real-time strategy game with Stark, Lannister, Targaryen and Night King factions that has been pushed to 2027.

What only the show floor gets

Opening Night Live is the broadcast; the hands-on happens afterwards. Xbox’s booth (Hall 7, A-0.61) has 140 stations and 25 playable titles, including the first public hands-on for the Gears of War: E-Day campaign, Minecraft Dungeons II, Stranger Than Heaven and Metro 2039, a live demo theatre for Fable, and playable Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 and Star Wars Zero Company. Xbox also streams from its booth stage on August 26 and 27 at 4 p.m. CEST (11 p.m. in Korea and Japan), which is the easier watch for anyone who skipped the 3 a.m. broadcast. Before the public days, the gamescom dev conference runs August 23 to 25 with around 390 speakers, and Games Done Quick’s speedrun showcase occupies August 28 to 30.

How to watch, and what nobody has confirmed

Set an alarm for 3 a.m. Wednesday (KST/JST) or 2 a.m. (CST) if you want to see the premieres live; otherwise the full show is archived on the same YouTube channel and trailers appear on publisher channels immediately after. Tickets for the public days are sold through gamescom’s own site; we did not verify availability or prices. What nobody has confirmed is the rest of the list. None of the exhibitors above has said what, beyond the named segments, will appear, so treat the four items here as the floor rather than the ceiling.
