What Yeongseok buys in Dokkebi-ui Segye, No. 4 in App Store revenue on its third day
Launched October 8 by Kakao Games, SUPERCAT's 2.5D MMORPG Dokkebi-ui Segye is No. 4 for game revenue and No. 1 among free games on Korea's App Store on October 10. It has classless skill builds, a market using earned Geumjeon, and Yeongseok outfits and mounts with no progression stats.
Before you pick
- Bottom line
- There is little barrier to exploring this pixel-art world of Korean folklore for free. Before buying Yeongseok, though, you can collect a full round of attendance rewards and check what the products include.
- Know before you start
- Both app stores disclose randomized items
On October 10, Dokkebi-ui Segye (도깨비의세계, 'World of Dokkaebi') ranks No. 4 for game revenue and No. 1 among free games on the Korean App Store[4]. It officially launched two days earlier, on October 8. Kakao Games says it reached No. 1 on the App Store's popularity chart on October 6, the first day of pre-downloads, and No. 1 on Google Play's popularity chart on launch day[1][2]. This article draws on Kakao Games press releases, listings on both app stores, and coverage of the pre-launch media briefing, checked as of October 10, 2026.
A pixel-art world set 300 years before the novel
Dokkebi-ui Segye is an MMORPG in which players share a world and develop their characters. It is developed by SUPERCAT, the studio behind The Kingdom of the Winds: Yeon, and published by Kakao Games[1][6]. It is based on Myeolgwi Sudojeon (멸귀수도전), an ongoing Naver web novel and webtoon. According to the Google Play description, the game takes place 300 years before the original story[7].
Its visuals place 2D pixel characters against 3D backgrounds[1]. Kakao Games calls this approach 2.5D. App Store promotional images show small pixel-art figures moving through thatched-roof villages and traditional Korean palace grounds[5].
Combat has no fixed classes. Players choose and combine skills to shape their own fighting style[5]. The August media briefing outlined 12 skill styles and around 90 skills[6]. Fighting other players is restricted to dedicated areas. Players cannot attack one another in the regular fields used for hunting[6]. Group content is organized around guilds (clans), and offline play allows characters to progress while their players are logged out[5].
Three currencies, with Yeongseok available to buy
The game has three currencies: Yeongseok (paid currency), Yeopjeon (character progression currency), and Geumjeon (trading currency). The marketplace uses Geumjeon earned through play, rather than Yeongseok[6]. In other words, marketplace listings are not priced in Yeongseok.
Yeongseok buys memberships, passes, and individual products such as outfits and mounts[6]. During a live demonstration in September, Kakao Games said outfits and mounts would not carry stats affecting character progression. At the same event, it extended the membership period from 28 days to 30 days in response to player feedback[2].
On the Korean App Store, prices listed on October 6, two days before launch, were KRW 3,300 for 240 Yeongseok, KRW 11,000 for 800, KRW 33,000 for 2,400, KRW 55,000 for 4,000, and KRW 99,000 for 7,200[5]. Both app stores state that the game includes randomized items[5][7]. The promise of stat-free outfits and mounts is separate from the question of which products use random rewards.
An AI assistant called Myorong also provides progression guidance. It assesses a character's development and identifies the equipment and skills they need. Kakao Games says Myorong does not recommend paid products. The company also says it is being offered at a beta stage during the initial launch period[6].
Rewards available in the first month
There are three rewards to look out for when starting. The first is a special 28-day attendance event, with rewards for logging in each day and a 'Heroic Blessing Selection Chest' on the final day[1]. The second celebrates reaching No. 1 on both major app stores' popularity charts. All players receive one 'No. 1 Celebration Dosul Fragment Selection Chest,' offering a choice of one of 25 Dosul (Taoist arts), one dye selection chest, and 111,111 Yeopjeon[2]. The third is a viewing reward: watching related streams on Chzzk and SOOP for the required amount of time earns game coupons[1].
Several payment promotions are also running. These include payment discounts for KT and LG U+ customers, Kakao Pay points back, and Google Play Points rewards. Detailed conditions are provided separately through the official community[1].
PC players have an extra installation step
On phones, the game can be downloaded directly from Google Play or the App Store. On PC, players first install Google Play Games through the official website, then download the official Dokkebi-ui Segye launcher within it[3]. The Google Play listing also states that the game is available on Android and Windows[7].
A limited-time coupon is available for PC purchases. Purchases through Google Play Games from 11 a.m. on October 8 until 11:59 p.m. on October 17 qualify for a coupon offering up to 90% off. Coupons are available on a first-come, first-served basis and may run out before the deadline[3].
For players who develop their characters through short, frequent sessions, offline progression and daily attendance rewards fit that routine. Players looking for an MMORPG where they can fight anyone they encounter in the open field will find that the rules do not support that style of play[6].
If you are considering buying Yeongseok, one option is to wait until early November, when the full 28 days of attendance rewards can be completed. In the meantime, you can check in-game what the memberships and passes actually provide. If you want the coupon, remember its deadline: October 17 at 11:59 p.m.[3].
