What $69.99 buys in EA SPORTS FC 27, and what FC Points buy after that
EA's yearly football game launched on September 25 with a new street mode, The Grounds, and a rebuilt Career transfer market. The box is $69.99, FC Points run from $4.99 to $149.99, and the pack odds sit one button away in the store.
Before you pick
- Bottom line
- The Career rebuild and The Grounds justify a new copy for people who live in those modes, while anyone who mainly plays Ultimate Team should decide whether a year of FC Points spending is part of the plan before the $69.99, because the box is only the entry fee.
- Know before you start
- Steam reviews sit at Mixed, 2,223 positive out of 4,050, and a recurring complaint is that matches feel close to FC 26

Scroll to the very bottom of the Korean Steam page for EA SPORTS FC 27 and there is a line tucked into the legal notice: the Ultimate Edition and FC Points purchases are not available in Belgium or South Korea[3]. The Korean store box accordingly lists one product, the standard game at 80,000 won[3]. In the United States the same box lists the standard game at $69.99 and the Ultimate Edition at $99.99, and a separate page sells seven bundles of FC Points[2][8].
That gap is a useful way into this year's game, because the part of FC 27 that keeps running after launch day is the part two countries cannot pay into. Everything below was checked against the Steam store and EA's own announcements as of September 27, 2026.
A new street playground sits next to the old stadium
EA dated the worldwide launch September 25[4]. On Steam the game unlocked at 23:00 UTC on September 24, after Ultimate Edition owners had been playing since September 17[6]. Valve's most-played chart dated September 26 puts it 38th, up from 76th the week before, with a peak of 90,519 concurrent players[7].
The headline addition is The Grounds. EA describes it as a social football playground "where the streets meet the stadium": kickabouts, 1v1 matches, and Clubs you build with friends, plus well-known football mentors who coach your avatar[4]. The first patch, version 1.0.1 on September 23, fixed five-star skill moves that would not trigger in street matches and made fatigue matter more in 11v11 games inside the mode[6].
There is a hardware condition attached. The Grounds and Clubs only exist on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2[4]. The PS4, Xbox One and original Switch versions are the same product without this year's biggest new mode.
Career mode got the deeper rebuild
The quieter change sits in Career. The transfer market was rebuilt so that other clubs bid actively for the same players, and player values are set with data from TransferRoom[4]. Contracts can now carry performance clauses and buy-back clauses. Player ratings, called OVR in the game, move up and down with form, morale and fitness at every club, not just yours[4]. You can also build custom scenarios in a standalone web portal and share them[4].
On the pitch, EA lists dynamic corners, enhanced attacking awareness and more player-focused defending[4]. Before launch, the team also said it did not plan significant gameplay balance changes in early title updates, so that players have time to learn the new systems[6]. One concrete change from the closed beta: Team Press no longer does anything while the ball is in your defensive third[6].
PC players got specific attention. EA's own testing showed launch times falling by around 50% in some configurations, keyboard controls were redesigned around two default layouts (WASD and arrow keys), a VRAM usage estimate now sits in the graphics menu, and Steam friends appear automatically as EA friends[6].
Where FC Points go, and what the odds screen shows
Ultimate Team, usually shortened to FUT, is the mode where you build a squad out of player items. You earn FUT Coins by playing and trading, and you can also buy FC Points, a premium currency. On Steam US those bundles are 500 points for $4.99, 1,050 for $9.99, 1,600 for $14.99, 2,800 for $24.99, 5,900 for $49.99, 12,000 for $99.99 and 18,500 for $149.99[8]. FC Points can be spent in the FUT store, The Grounds store and the Clubs store[10], and the Steam legal notice ties them to FUT packs and the Premium Pass[1].
Packs are random. EA's probability page explains that every pack sold for FC Points has a "Show Pack Probabilities" option underneath it[9]. The numbers are minimum probabilities of getting at least one item in a given rating band, and they apply per pack, so opening ten packs does not stack them. EA also writes plainly that the chance of any particular player is significantly lower than the band figure and often under 1%[9]. New for FC 27, each randomly awarded special item has about a 5% chance of arriving as a Holographic variant, which changes its look and can change its quicksell value and Gallery score, but not its OVR or in-match attributes[9].
Rating boards flagged the same structure. The ESRB entry lists in-game purchases that include random items, and Germany's USK added descriptors for heightened purchase incentives and pressure to play frequently[2].
There is a counterweight. EA says FC 27 pays more FUT Coins from eligible matches and makes a significantly higher proportion of rewards tradeable[6][11]. That matters most in Belgium and South Korea, where coins are the only way to build a squad, since FC Points cannot be bought there[3][5].
The Ultimate Edition's 6,000 FC Points arrive in three equal drops over three months, and the full amount only comes through if the first drop is claimed by August 1, 2027[1]. Separately, playing both FC 26 and FC 27 before November 1 is what qualifies an account for this season's Club Membership rewards[1].
The first hour follows EA's script
A new save walks you through a Champions League kickabout and The Grounds tutorial before reaching the main menu, and you can quit that tutorial at any point[12]. Entering FUT for the first time asks you to choose a Starter Pack tied to two leagues, a choice you only get once[12]. EA's own beginner guide then advises against playing other people with the starting squad and points you at Squad Battles against the AI on Amateur or Semi-Pro difficulty, followed by Moments, short challenges that pay out stars you exchange for packs[12].
Before installing, check the numbers. The minimum spec is a GTX 1050 Ti with 8 GB of RAM; the recommended spec is a GTX 1660 with 12 GB. Storage is 100 GB, and the recommended tier lists an SSD as required[2]. Commentary in languages other than English and your Steam client language is a separate download[1].
FC 27 Lite went up on Steam on September 25 as a free download[13]. It only opens Kick-Off, Learn to Play, Online Friendlies and Online Seasons[4], and upgrading to the full game is what unlocks Ultimate Team, Career and The Grounds[13]. In other words, Lite cannot show you either of this year's two big changes. Its own Steam reviews stand at 19 positive out of 148[14].
Mixed reviews, and the same complaint underneath many of them
The full game's Steam rating is Mixed: 2,223 positive reviews out of 4,050[14]. Those are player reviews on Steam, not critic scores. Among the negative reviews written in Korean, the most common thread is that matches feel almost unchanged from FC 26; others report commentary cutting out mid-match, endless loading in Clubs, and anti-cheat errors at startup[14]. These are user reports rather than issues EA has confirmed. The positive ones tend to praise faster menus and the new keyboard layouts[14].
That shapes who should buy. Career players get the most out of this edition, because the transfer rebuild touches every season they play. People who want couch football benefit too, since Steam lists shared and split-screen PvP and co-op[2]. Anyone who plays mainly on PS4, Xbox One or the original Switch is paying full price for a version without The Grounds.
For the Ultimate Team crowd, the question is less about the $69.99 than about the season after it. The probability screen gives minimum odds per band, not the odds of the card you are chasing, and EA publishes that distinction itself. If you already own FC 26 and play mostly FUT, a practical step before buying is EA Play at $5.99 a month on Steam US[15]: EA's announcement says members get a trial of up to 10 hours, with progress carrying over if they buy[6]. Whether ten hours is enough to tell FC 27's matches apart from FC 26's is the thing the reviews above are still arguing about.
