In Whiteout Survival, even a broken login streak can be restored with gems
Century Games' snowy survival strategy game ranked 2nd on Korea's App Store game top-grossing chart on October 5. Grow a city from one furnace and fight with an alliance. Items cost KRW 1,500 to KRW 149,000 each. Both app stores label it as containing random items.
Before you pick
- Bottom line
- For people who check in briefly a few times a day, this is a city management game that needs little hands-on attention. But its many spending and daily-login incentives make it better to set a spending cap first.
- Know before you start
- Both app stores disclose sales of random items, and a single purchase can cost up to KRW 149,000 on Google Play
Whiteout Survival is a mobile survival strategy game from Century Games[1][2]. It launched in February 2023, but on October 5 it ranked 2nd on Korea's App Store game top-grossing chart and 8th in the United States. It was 6th in Japan and 3rd in Taiwan that day[3]. Kingshot and Tasty Travels, also from Century Games, ranked 9th and 14th in Korea, giving the company three of the top 15 games[3]. Google Play downloads have passed 100 million[2]. This review draws on the two app stores, the Google Play event page and related reporting, checked as of October 5, 2026.
A city built around a furnace in the snow
The story takes place after blizzards have covered the world. You play as a Chief leading a group of survivors, lighting a small furnace and melting the ice to expand your land[1]. The first few hours involve managing workers and resources, building homes and facilities, and growing the settlement. Dispatch heroes and resources accumulate even while you are offline. Short activities such as ice fishing and snow clearing also offer rewards[1].
Heroes are combat units you recruit and develop. You receive the SSR hero Molly for free at the start. All heroes share levels, so acquiring a new one does not mean starting again from scratch[1]. You form alliances with other players. The App Store description encourages you to team up with players worldwide, help one another and grow quickly[1]. The August update increased chat group capacity to 200 people[1].
The next stages depend on state progress
Progress is not determined by your individual level alone. Your State has its own progression, which unlocks later generations of heroes and higher equipment limits. According to the August 17 update notes for version 1.33.9, States that have unlocked Gen 6 heroes gain access to Legendary T6 Chief Gear (3-Star), while States that have unlocked Gen 8 heroes gain access to Lv. 17 and Lv. 18 Chief Charms[1].
The same update added the Fire Crystal Age expansion, which cities enter when their furnace reaches Fire Crystal Lv. 1. The complaint mailbox became the Wish Station, which receives survivors' wishes[1]. It also introduced Endless Trials. After 00:30 UTC each day, you can attack the wilderness boss Wulfgar the "Windhowler" solo up to 30 times per day. Rankings use the highest damage you record that day, and rallies involving multiple players are not allowed[1].
From KRW 1,500 packs to KRW 149,000 per item
The game is free, with payments for shop items and passes. Google Play lists in-app products at KRW 1,500 to KRW 149,000 per item[2]. Purchases listed on the Korean App Store page include STANDARD PACK 1 (KRW 1,500), PACK 10 (KRW 30,000), Mini Pass (KRW 1,500), Regular Pass (KRW 7,500) and Daily Deal (7d) (KRW 7,500)[1].
There are random rewards, too. The App Store labels the app as containing "Loot Boxes", while Google Play's rating information states "In-game purchases (includes random items)"[1][4]. The game is rated 12+ on Google Play in Korea[2].
There are also numerous systems encouraging you to keep logging in daily. The August update changed the VIP login rewards screen to a calendar format. Logging in for 14 consecutive days unlocks Streak Freeze. If you miss a day, the streak automatically enters a frozen state the following day, and you can spend gems during that period to restore your consecutive-day count[1]. The same notes group the hero ascension event and the "Exclusive Gear Forge" event as special-offer events, with point rewards for raising heroes' star levels and developing exclusive gear. They say only that unlocking "Battle Stars" and "Champion Forge", respectively, gives more rewards; the unlock requirements are not listed[1].
How probability information reached the website
In South Korea, games have been required to disclose probability information for random items both in-game and on their websites since March 2024. In the third week after the requirement took effect, the Game Rating and Administration Committee requested corrections from nine companies that had not disclosed the information. This game subsequently added pages where players could check probability information through in-game notices and its website, according to reporting[5].
On October 1, 2026, South Korea's National Assembly passed an amendment to the Game Industry Act targeting overseas game companies. It allows restrictions on the use of information and communications networks by overseas game companies that do not appoint a domestic representative or do not comply with orders to correct probability disclosures[6]. Century Games' developer address on Google Play is in Singapore[2].
For brief visits a few times a day
This game favors frequent check-ins over long sessions. The day is divided between dispatching heroes, collecting resources and joining events on your alliance's schedule[1]. Alongside phones, it is playable on Windows PCs through Google Play Games and on Macs with Apple M1 or later[1][7].
It is not a good fit for people who find random rewards and attendance systems burdensome. The VIP login streak feature described above lets you use gems to make up for the loss caused by missing a day[1]. The current event is fishing. On October 5, the Google Play event page showed a fishing championship offering ocean-style skins with the label "ends in 6 days"[4].
