About

Return to the zombie-infested streets of Raccoon City as ex-S.T.A.R.S. member Jill Valentine makes her final, desperate bid for escape. Combining classic survival horror puzzles with an unprecedented level of action, this 1999 masterpiece introduces the relentless stalker Nemesis. Players must navigate urban decay, manage scarce resources, and make split-second decisions to survive a nightmare that pushes PlayStation hardware to its absolute limits.

Story

Set concurrently with the events of Resident Evil 2, the narrative follows Jill Valentine's harrowing escape from Umbrella Corporation's T-virus outbreak. As the city descends into total chaos, Jill must not only battle hordes of undead and grotesque mutations but also survive being hunted by Nemesis—a bio-engineered monstrosity specifically programmed to eliminate surviving S.T.A.R.S. members.

Gameplay

Experience tension-filled third-person exploration featuring fixed camera angles and beautifully haunting pre-rendered backgrounds. Innovative action-oriented mechanics include a quick 180-degree turn, a highly rewarding timed dodge system, and the strategic use of environmental hazards like explosive barrels against the encroaching undead.

Key Features

  • 1Relentless Nemesis Pursuit: A recurring, terrifying boss that chases you across areas, dodges fire, and uses heavy weapons.
  • 2Live Selection System: Time-sensitive choices (Fight or Flight) that dramatically alter enemy spawns, encounters, and endings.
  • 3Evasive Dodge Mechanic: A precision-timed button combo crucial for evading lethal lunges and Nemesis charges.
  • 4Environmental Combat: Strategically shoot explosive barrels and hazards to clear dense groups of enemies.
  • 5Enhanced Enemy AI: Face up to nine simultaneous enemies with improved stair-hunting capabilities.
  • 6Ammunition Crafting: Collect and combine different gunpowder types to create specialized rounds for your arsenal.

💡 Did You Know?

Director Kazuhiro Aoyama heavily inspired Nemesis by the relentless T-1000 from Terminator 2.

The game was originally conceived as a spin-off title by an inexperienced team while Code: Veronica was in development.

It is the first game in the classic Resident Evil series to allow up to nine enemies on screen at once.

Playing on Easy mode gives you a massive arsenal from the start, but completely locks you out of the true ending.
