Resident Evil (1996) - 50% OFF on Steam

Resident Evil (1996) is currently featured on the Steam store!

About

Released in 1996, Resident Evil is the groundbreaking masterpiece that defined a generation of gaming and officially coined the term 'survival horror'. Players must navigate a terrifying mansion filled with deadly bio-weapons, balancing tense combat with intricate puzzle-solving and strict resource management.

Story

As a member of the elite S.T.A.R.S. Alpha team, you are deployed to a remote mansion to investigate a series of bizarre disappearances and a bio-experiment gone wrong. What starts as a rescue mission quickly descends into a desperate fight for survival as you unearth the horrific mysteries of the Umbrella Corporation.

Gameplay

Experience the tension of classic tank controls, fixed camera angles, and heavily limited inventory space. Every bullet and health item counts as you explore the pre-rendered environments, using rare ink ribbons to save your progress while evading deadly zombies and monstrous mutations.

Key Features

  • 1Dual Protagonists: Choose between Chris Redfield (stronger/faster) or Jill Valentine (easier/more items)
  • 2Strategic resource management with extremely limited ammunition and healing items
  • 3Iconic save system requiring players to find ink ribbons to use on typewriters in safe rooms
  • 4Cinematic fixed camera angles paired with highly detailed, atmospheric pre-rendered backgrounds
  • 5Intricate puzzle-solving intertwined with deep, non-linear mansion exploration
  • 6Multiple distinct endings based on player choices and supporting character survival

πŸ’‘ Did You Know?

Resident Evil was originally planned as a remake of Capcom's 1989 Famicom horror game 'Sweet Home'.

A Game Boy Color version was planned for 1999 but was officially canceled by Capcom due to poor port quality.

The 1997 Director's Cut included an Advanced Mode that completely remixed enemy locations, item placements, and camera angles.

In 2008, Jill's campaign was adapted into an isometric mobile game titled 'Resident Evil Genesis'.

The Japanese version (Biohazard) featured slightly different cutscenes and more graphic violence than the heavily censored Western release.
