ANLIFE: Motion-Learning Life Evolution is currently featured on the Steam store!
About
ANLIFE is a relaxing yet complex simulation where you observe and intervene in the evolution of AI-driven block creatures. Unlike traditional sims, there are no pre-baked animations; every movement is learned from scratch through a physics engine. From clumsy crawlers to efficient runners, watch natural selection unfold in pocket-sized spherical worlds.
Story
There is no scripted narrative—only the emergent story of life itself. Set within tranquil, spherical 'bubble' worlds, you witness the birth of a species. As a silent observer or an active deity, you shape the environment, deciding whether to nurture your creations with food or challenge them with meteors, guiding their genetic destiny through generations.
Gameplay
The core loop revolves around passive observation and active divine intervention. Creatures evolve body shapes—adding joints, legs, or arms—based on movement efficiency. You utilize 'God Powers' to place specific food types (for nutrition or mutation), reshape terrain, or summon disasters. The physics engine ensures no two creatures move exactly alike, creating a mesmerizing display of trial, error, and adaptation.
Key Features
- 1AI-Driven Motion Learning: Creatures learn to move from scratch, evolving from crawling babies to complex organisms.
- 2Divine Intervention Tools: Summon meteors, drop fire, or provide food to influence survival.
- 3Genetic Mutation System: Food types trigger specific mutations, altering block counts and body structures.
- 4Spherical World Shaping: Modify land, sea, underground, and sky environments.
- 5Karma System: Destructive acts accumulate 'evil karma,' unlocking stronger attacks.
- 6Natural Selection: Only the most efficient movers survive to reproduce.
- 7Emergent Behavior: Witness unscripted group interactions and pain responses.

💡 Did You Know?
The AI tech is related to a zombie demo that Hayao Miyazaki famously criticized in 2016.
Creatures can evolve to become bipedal, crab-like, or even develop flight without scripted instructions.
The game is a spiritual successor to a 2009 student project also called 'anlife'.
Using meteors and fire accumulates 'evil karma', which actually powers up your destructive abilities.
The developers specialize specifically in AI physics simulations.

Timeline
God Powers & Tools
- •Create Food: Spawn standard nutrients or mutation-inducing blocks.
- •Meteor Strike: Call down destruction to cull the weak.
- •Fire Drop: Introduce chaos to the ecosystem.
- •Terraform: Raise mountains or dig oceans in the spherical world.
- •World Expansion: Increase planet size to support flying species.
The Tech Behind the Life
ANLIFE uses a sophisticated physics engine where creatures are not animated by artists. Instead, they are driven by neural networks that control 'muscles' and joints. Through reinforcement learning (chasing food), they figure out how to propel themselves, resulting in hilarious stumbling that eventually evolves into efficient running, swimming, or flying.
